So this year marks Ben Lairig’s 35th anniversary! Whilst this isn’t a classic big anniversary, to keep with tradition we will once again be paying a visit to Boot Beer Festival in the Lake District (7th-9th June) and thought it would be a great chance to celebrate 35 years of the club! The club is still going strong – we have been scrambling and climbing mountains all over the UK, in the Lake District, Snowdonia and Scotland, and last year took a trip abroad last year to the High Atlas mountains in Morocco. Over recent years, our methods of ascent have varied from a simple hike to an exposed scramble, and all the way up to a technical ice, mixed or rock climb, depending on individual/ group aspirations and ability.
This year we are once again going to Boot Beer Festival, travelling from York on the Friday afternoon, staying at the Fisherground Campsite in Eskdale Valley and returning back to York on the Sunday evening. There is no fixed plan for the weekend, for some the weekend will predominately be spent at the pubs having a pint or few, whilst others take a hike up the mountains! It’d be great if we were joined by previous members of the club and we’ll be wearing Ben Lairig hoodies so we’re easy to spot!
Details of the Fisherground Campsite can be found here:

Having recently come across the Ben Lairig Funbook from 2001, we have found some old traditions which seem to have died out (e.g. feeding the trip organisers breakfast in bed!) which need to be restarted! It would be great to learn more about what the club used to be like and reminisce about everyone’s time in the club over a pint / whilst on a hike!
Hopefully see you soon for Ben Lairig’s 35th reunion! We look forward to meeting the great members before us for a cracking weekend!
